Katsu Cafe (Marcos Highway, Antipolo City)

After a bit of research (and by my understanding, forgive me if I'm wrong), I found out that the Japanese word "katsu" means "to win". You got to love Wikipedia. Talking about food, it means cutlet. If you happen to be in Marikina, Cainta or Antipolo, there's this little food haven along Marcos Highway past Sta. Lucia and Robinson's Metro East and before reaching Masinag - Katsu Cafe. I love eating here, hence this writing piece about my latest visit.

Since people love photos:
Their logo.
Their logo, this time in another angle. Wow.
The place looks good. I like how they like using wood for decoration, I think it's the Japanese sensibility that fuels this. I love the music they play, I've heard tracks from the likes of Coldplay, Stereophonics, Keane and the Verve play here.

Their katsu meals are served with miso soup, salad (shredded cabbage with sesame dressing) and unlimited rice.

I was thinking of a punny caption, but rice is so boring it doesn't deserve one.
And while waiting for it to be served you get to make this:
This is where you dip your katsu.
You get to pulverize innocent sesame seeds and drown their remains in that secret katsu sauce.

And suddenly, food is served. My wife today ate the Chicken Katsu set. I've tried this before, and it's delicious. Probably the safest bet if you're eating here for the first time, or if you've got kids with discriminating taste in food. Yes, it's a fried dish, but it's tummy friendly. You won't feel heavy after eating even if you asked for another serving of rice.

We also ordered the side salad, as I thought what I ordered didn't come with it. I was wrong. Oh well, more salad for us then:

I ordered the Jumbo Prawn Tempura Set. Three pieces of big-ass prawns for me to conquer. I think this is the best tempura I've had in my life. I think they force fed these poor creatures umami seasoning - they're that tasty. And you always get prawn. ALWAYS. IN. EVERY. BITE. No breading overkill here. Now for some tempura porn:

The aftermath. And also because taking pictures of your food before eating them is too mainstream:

Where'd the food go?

Another satisfying meal. This place never let us down since we first tried it. It's a win indeed.
